Coles joins Aldi, Woolworths raising price of milk, but benefit to dairy farmers unclear

The dairy industry has welcomed a surprise move, first by Aldi, then Woolworths and Coles, to raise the retail price of their home brand milk, but it remains unclear if farmers will benefit.
Aldi quietly added 10 cents per litre to its milk on Wednesday.

Woolworths followed on Thursday with Coles on Friday afternoon.

The price rise is the second this year — in March Aldi and Coles followed Woolworths in abolishing $1 per litre pricing on milk.

“I don’t think anyone knew in the industry at all,” Dairy Connect farmer group chairman Graham Forbes said.
